November 2018 - Brian Hopper Visit

We were honoured to have renowned National & International photographer Brian Hopper attend our club last week. Thank you, Brian, for the wonderful talk, empowering us with your vast knowledge in photography and inspiring us with your many genres of photography.

Chairperson Una Finn introduced Brian as renowned photographer who does not pigeon-hole himself into any one genre, rather embraces all kinds of photography.  From Co Louth, Brian has spent many an early morning and late evening on Blackrock beach and showed us a selection of his amazing sun risers and sun sets, reflecting the magical light of dawn on the flat beds in the foreground of many of these photos.

He next took us on a magical journey through Cuba where he was privileged to shoot many of the locals, producing several awards winning pictures from that trip. Brian also has worked his magic to capture bids and wildlife close to home. He then showed us a selection of old houses photos – giving us a few key tips on do’s and don’ts if you have the privilege of access to an old house – let the picture tell the story.

Brian has spent many months working on an amazing project to bring his photos to life for the visually impaired and is working to further enhance these images. We eagerly look forward to his next visit to the club and experience this display when it’s at the next level. Thank you, Brian.

Club member Kate Murphy currently has an exhibition in the Library in Fermoy showing some of the sights and colours of her recent trip to China. Best of luck Kate.

On Tuesday 27th November we have our final competition of the year – the Frank Morgan Cup for the Photo of the Year. Please be sure to email your favourite picture from 2018 to the competition email by Friday night 23rd Nov and bring along a printed copy of the night. This is a wonderful competition for a beautiful cup in honour of our good friend and club supporter, Frank Morgan RIP.

The final meeting of the year will be on 11th December where 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed photographers of the year in each grade will be presented. Only those in the competition committee know the result and we are told it’s a very close contest this year so be sure to come along to support the winners - you never know, you could be among the winners yourself!  In the mean time have lots of Fun with Photography.
