August 2018 - Architecture of The World

Twenty seven entries were received for our August challenge with images from all over the world- Singapore, New Orleans, Cologne, Bordeaux, Pisa, Venice and East Ferry, Cork and Kilkenny to mention just a few.

The competition was projected and judged by our colleagues from Blarney Camera Club. We are indebted to Fergal O’Callaghan and Henry O’Brien who joined us on Tuesday night and gave us a very detailed critique of each photograph. They also showed us some of their work.

This month’s winners were: Tom Quish (Grade 1 and overall winner) with a very moody picture of the Convention Centre in Dublin. Conor McCarthy (Grade 2 winner) with a lovely night time photo of Cologne. Kaye English (3rd Overall) with a beautiful photo of the wine museum in Bordeaux. Donagh Cronin (Grade 2 winner) with an iconic shot of Singapore and Mary Thornhill was the Grade 3 winner. Many congratulations to all who took part and especially to our winners.

Our next competition is ‘Perfect Timing’. This is a printed competition with electronic copies to be emailed by Friday 21st September and printed images displayed at our monthly competition meeting on 25th September 2018. This competition will again be judges internally.  Members are reminded to pay particular attention to Theme as this is a very important criteria in judging.

Don’t forget our Summer Challenge will be judged on 11th September - 4 Days Of Summer. One or four photos to be mounted on rear of backing board. There are valuable cash prizes to be won so why not get your best summer pics together and give it a go.

The weekend wanders continue with recent outings to Holycross & the Rock of Cashel and Araglin Animal Centre. The recent club outing to west Cork was a tremendous success. Next up is the Big Trip Abroad – this time it’s to Nerja in Spain in mid-October.  Huge thanks to Monica O’Brien and her team for all the work they put into planning the club outings and to Helen Coughlan who coordinates the Weekend Wanders.

These trips and outings are always very sociable events. They are a great way to get experience of taking photos in new locations and picking up tips and tricks from other members. If you haven’t been on an outing recently why not come along to the next one?

A WhatsApp Info board has been set up to facilitate sharing of info on upcoming local events, Weekend Wanders, Midweek Wanders, outings and other relevant information. If you have not already joined this group please contact Sinead. This is strictly an Info Board and not for general chatter!!

A number of our members are preparing for their Licentiateship distinction with the Irish Photography Federation (LIPF) in September and November. We wish them all the best.

‘Till the next time, enjoy the autumn light and have lots of Fun With Photography.
