February 2019 - Iñaki enthralls

Inaki Hernandez-lasa with FCC members Karen Fleming, Sinead Hickey, Una Mason & Deirdre Casolani (Battie Arnold) .jpg

We were thrilled to have Iñaki Hernández-Lasa visit our club last week. He gave us a presentation of his incredible work in fine art architectural photography. Inaki showed us his superb panel of photos of exterior shots of the Guggenheim museum, Bilbao for which he received a Fellowship of the Irish Photographic Society in 2013. Followed by a presentation of his Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society panel which he received in 2018. Beautifully shot abstract images taken in the atrium of the Guggenheim museum.

Iñaki's talk was an inspiration to us all, his aim when photographing a building is to capture it's ' genius loci' - the spirit of the building. A lesson to us all, we will now, as photographers, keep looking up. His visit to the club was timely as we have an architectural challenge coming up shortly. We were all inspired by his insights, his approach and attention to detail, planning and image concept every before he sets foot in the building he plans to photograph.  Hopefully his encouragement will help us to look at buildings in a new way – particularly buildings and places we are familiar with – there’s always another angle .

Two members of FCC were in the national finals in the nature and wildlife section at the IPF All Ireland Finals

Congratulations to Donagh Cronin on winning a bronze medal for this image of a blue hoverfly taken in the botanical gardens Singapore. Donagh also recieved a honourable mention for his image of a tree creeper taken in Donneraile Park. Congrats also to Jim Heffernan who also scored highly throughout the day. Stunning images by both FCC members. Well done Donagh and Jim. Looking forward to seeing in images at the club soon.

Our exhibition is currently running at AIB Fermoy. Be sure to pop in to see the array of phots on display from the 2018 Frank Morgan Memorial Photograph of the Year competition. The competition which runs each year is a fitting tribute to our dear friend Frank RIP. Our thanks to Breeda and Helen for their continued support and for sponsoring the coveted trophy. Thanks to Marie Barry at AIB for giving the space for the exhibition. Thanks also to Battie, Deirdre, Niall, Una, Jim & Bill for setting up the exhibition.

Our competition on 26th February is “Your Choice”. An opportunity to enter your favorite photo taken anytime / anywhere.  Again, this is a printed image and we will have table critique on the night so remember to note your setting and a little about your editing / printing / mounting.

Don’t forget you can find us on Facebook and Twitter. ‘Till the next tine, have lots of Fun With Photography.
