Jan 2019 - The Sky's The Limit

2019 got off to a great start for Fermoy Camera Club, with medals for both Jim Heffernan and Donagh Cronin at the Southern Regional Finals of the Nature and Wildlife competition. The National Finals will take place in February and we will have more details after that.  Congrats also to Emer Quigley on her Salon acceptance.

We have had a number of club outings over the past few weeks and the best attended adventure was to Mahon Falls in early January. Lots of learning and an awful lot of fun was had.  Great comradery and support from members – not just of the photographic kind; we understand welly, socks and dry clothes were appreciated by the recipients! Hugh thanks to Terence and Monica for all their hard work organizing our outing. Next stop Killarney.

Our fist competition of the year was “The Sky’s The Limit” leaving plenty scope for imagination. 28 entries were received and Catherine, Terence, Máire and Helen C were the POTTY judges – thanks folks.

This was a color printed competition with some really lovely images. We had an opportunity to see each one up close during the table critique and it was great to get feedback on our images for our colleagues.

The overall winner was Basil O’Sullivan with a stunning lighting photo taken in Tuscany.Second was Bill Chambers with a lovely shot of the reservoir in Fermoy – Bill explained that this was more like 7 photos stitched together – we might pick his brains another night to understand how that was achieved. Karen Fleming was third with a lovely shot taken in Garrylucas and Karen’s message to us was some times the best shots are behind you, remember to look around you!.Our Grade 2 winners was Catherine Spillane who used the very latest technology to capture a seafront scene in Nerja during a club visit last autumn.Grade 3 winner was Sheena Hanrahan with a shot taken on the Beara Peninsula.Well done to all the
