Annesgrove Gardens

FCC members were up bright and early to discover the beautiful Annes Grove Gardens, in Castletownroche. The Grove Annesley Family donated the house and gardens to the OPW in 2015 and an extensive restoration is ongoing to make this extraordinary place for visitors to come.
We wandered through the gardens which included a river garden, a woodland garden with up to 100 varieties of Rhododendrons, wild flower meadows and a Lilly pond.
The walled garden is divided up by beech and hew hedges. We nearly tripped over ourselves trying to capture a beautiful blue poppy. The ancient trees were giants among us, the sound of the Awbeg river and the birds singing was our soundtrack. Truly a magical place. Thanks to our guide for giving us the history and some unusual anecdotes and interesting stories about Annes Grove Estate. A fun day out with photography was had by all.
Thanks to Catherine Sheehan for organising the trip. Those interested in availing of the garden tours must pre-book as places are limited. Contact Marian at Avondhu Blackwater Partnership on 022 46580
